Haven’t Been To The Dentist In Years? Understand What To Expect

added on: January 21, 2015

Feeling guilty or apprehensive because you have not visited a general dentist office in a year, or more, is very common. However, dental exams are not as bad as many people think. Dentists will give you a non-judgmental, caring and personalized service, which will make you feel a little better about visiting a general dentist office.

At Park Cedar Dentistry, our dental exams focus on three major dental issues: 1) wear and tear on the teeth; 2) cavities; and 3) gum disease. You will get a full set of mouth x-rays, comprehensive examination and hygiene appointment. A full set of mouth x-rays are typically taken every three to five years. They may be taken more often if needed.

Your appointment will begin with a set of questions and personal concerns. Your medical history will also be reviewed. After that, you will get an evaluation that will check for signs of infection. The appropriate level of cleaning will be performed after the diagnosis has been made. If time allows, then the cleaning will be completed the same day.

The comprehensive examination will serve as a review of what was already covered by the dental hygienist. Your dental concerns and medical history will be reviewed again. If signs of periodontal disease were detected by the hygienist, then the diagnosis will be confirmed by the dentist. Additionally, broken fillings, breakdown, decay and any areas of the mouth that are at a high risk for suffering problems will be reviewed during the examination.

During your examination, you will also receive tips to improve your oral health. Going to the dentist is not the only thing that you will need to do to keep your teeth and gums healthy. You will have to make sure that you are caring for your teeth and gums properly when you are at home or traveling. That is why our Charlotte NC dentists recommends you always use these tips to improve your oral health that were provided during your visit and exam.

After your appointment has been completed, treatments, insurance coverage, scheduling and payment options will be reviewed and recommended by the front desk. The time that you spend with Dr. Sturm, Dr. Snapp and Dr. Caldwell at our South Charlotte general dentist office will be well worth it. Our dentists will try to make sure that your visit is as comfortable as possible.
